Revolut Unit

The Joint Account
Revolut Unit is a conceptual feature that allows users to save and share expenses easily with the people they trust.
It acts as the bridge between personal banking and shared banking, without the usual fuss.
The Context
In this project I was tasked with designing a new feature for an existing Fintech app. The design had to reflect the tone of the app while remaining true to the UI.

Mapping the current
app landscape
I settled on designing a new feature for the Revolut mobile app and quickly identified the need for a joint account feature. My own personal experience with the app informed this decision along with some surface-level user research, across Revolut forums, which suggested the same.
I analysed the current landscape of Revolut, highlighting areas of success and opportunity, as well as points of bad user experience.
Initial sketching and ideating
Once I had a clear idea of what I wanted my app to achieve I began sketching out what this could look like and where it could fit within the existing product.
Prototyping and contextualisation
I developed my sketches into paper prototypes that I tested remotely due to the pandemic. Through iterative testing I was able to identify the user pain points.
I considered the visual design of my feature and how I could incorporate that seamlessly into the app. I adopted Revolut’s secondary colours and created design elements that would allow joint account cards to be distinguishable but remain true to the concept of ‘unity’.
After several iterations of my prototype, from paper
to mid-fi, I was able to settle on my final user flow.
Unit
Revolut Unit is a joint account that allows users to manage their money together. Setting up an account takes minutes unlike traditional banking and offers full control over spending and saving habits.
Reflection
Given the chance I would expand on some interesting features within the joint accounts such as the representation of shared expenses or the balance of contribution.
This project allowed me to get a firmer grip on Figma and prototyping. I was able to expand on my technical skills within the constraints of an established design system.
